Blu-ray Boondoggle - Must Read

For those of you who own Blu-ray players you may find that the newer FOX Studios Blu-ray titles will not play on your players. The fault is not with your player but rather the Blu-ray disc itself. These discs feature BD Live and for whatever reason these are not compatible with the existing operating firmware that is loaded into your machine.

The typical symptom is that the disc will load and after a period of time a red screen warning message will appear on your TV that indicates that the Blu-ray player will require a firmware upgrade. This is euphemistically called the "Red Screen of Death" similar, but unrelated to, the famous PC/Microsoft “Blue Screen of Death".

Firmware upgrades are available to be downloaded into your PC from your Blu-ray manufacturer’s website. If you don't have a PC, then contact the customer support department of your player's manufacturer and request a copy of their latest update. These are provided at no charge. If you don't have the time please contact Hi-Fi Sales and speak with your salesperson and request that we send you a disc.

We understand that there are new firmware upgrades coming in April. Once updated, your players should be able to play all the latest releases.

To avoid Movie Disappointment we would suggest that before you buy any of the newer FOX BD titles that you perform the latest upgrades. If you have the urge to watch the latest FOX release we would recommend that you either rent from Netflix or get the standard DVD version until your firmware upgrades have been installed.
